Someone actually told me today “Life is like a box of chocolates, you’ll never know what you’re gonna get.” My sarcastic disposition almost got me in trouble. I almost retorted with my own words of wisdom, but alas… I kept my thoughts to myself and walked away.
However, since my thoughts were wresting with themselves --- first with a gutwrench suplex followed by inverted shoulder rack, and finishing off with a powerslam --- I couldn’t resist trying to rationalize the statement.
“Life is like a box of chocolates. You’ll never know what you’re gonna get.”
…Hmmm.
I bought a box and ate all the contents in one sitting… I have only this to say… You DO know what you’re gonna get. You’re gonna get chocolates!
By the first statement alone, life IS a box of chocolates.
Now, each chocolate may house a different type of confectionary delight such as Colchester, Aztec, Java, Mokka, Praline, and oh my, the list goes on…some may be just nuts, some caramel or nougat…but after all is said and done, you still have a box of chocolates.
Is it just me, or is the prospect of eating (Burrrpppp!!!, scuse me...)a box of chocolates not as important as giving the box to someone you care about.
My beloved, I love you. As we live in wedded bliss, I am giving you this box of chocolate to tell you about me. Quite frankly, I don’t even know me. This box is only a physical illustration of the mystery within me. As we live our lives together, each chocolate represents a side of me that is different than the rest. Each one is still me, but inside you will find something unique. As you digest each piece, know that I am sacrificing a part of me for you. Once you’ve eaten the last piece you will have to make one of the most difficult decisions you will have to face…Do you want another box of me, or have you had enough and wish to go on a diet to remove any evidence of my influence in your life?
Some can make one box last a lifetime.
Some have to get multiple boxes to satisfy a need.
Some can’t even finish the box without getting sick.
Man, I knew I should have bought that stinking box of chocolates when I bought those flowers.
